A Panoramic View of My Backyard Gardens

Visitors to my website have often asked to see a full-length view of my northern gardens so that they can get an idea of the whole garden layout. So here it is!

The large garden in the front of the panoramic photo is the perennial bed and behind that garden from the left of the photo is the Fragrance Garden which starts on the far left and continues through the pathway to the Butterfly/Hummingbird Garden. In front of the Fragrance Garden is the Shrub Rose Garden that has several varieties and colors of hardy landscape roses.  The new Butterfly/Hummingbird Garden comes next and behind that into the Woodland Garden are the Winter Interest Shrubs with berries or flowers like red and yellow-twig dogwood, hydrangea and winterberry. The Moon Garden is also part of the Woodland Garden, but has only white plants that can be seen in the evening from the deck on the right of the photo. Next to the Moon Garden is the Bog Garden and after that the Fall Shrub Garden that contains only shrubs that turn bright colors in the autumn.  Most of the shrubs in the Fall Shrub Garden also have flowers in the spring and berries for winter interest.

The Kitchen Garden is the only backyard garden that is not included in the panoramic photo so I have included spring and fall photos of the garden on the left. The spring photo better shows the traditional four-square design of the garden and pathways.

Note:  Another question I'm often asked is how big are my gardens.  I'm not sure of the exact garden area, but we have about two acres total and I would say that I garden probably half of that. Maybe more--but definitely not less! tly
