Discovery Garden Layout

Julie Peterson of Sargents Nursery drew the original plan for the Discovery Garden and Goodhue County Master Gardeners* collaborated on the garden and plant designs. Everyone involved wanted the garden to be a place that not only appealed to all the senses, but also stimulated a child's imagination and enjoyment of nature.
This is definitely not a "look-but-don't-touch garden." We encourage every visitor to not only look, but to stop and smell, touch and even listen to the plants.
There are eight gardens that make up the main Discovery Garden. The four outside gardens are each planted with two colors: The Ladybug Garden (red/pink), the Moon Garden (silver/white), The Sun Garden (yellow/orange) and the Water Garden (blue/purple). The other gardens are: The Fragrance Garden, the Faerie Garden, the Butterfly & Hummingbird Garden and the Cook's Garden.
In 2010, local artist and Master Gardener Peg Hansen, will create a unique mosaic sculpture for each of the outside gardens incorporating their unique theme (sun, moon, water, etc.).
There is also a Rainbow Garden just outside the main garden that is planted in bright prism colors. We hope to continue planting the Rainbow Garden with new annual plants each season.
